There are 4 different parts that come in the various Disguise The Surprise sets. Knowing the individual part names will help you when reading the instructions below.
Length = Run the length of the box (14.812")
Width = Run the width of the box (9.25")
Riser = Use to lift up thin gifts (14.812")
Buffer = Use to fill in extra space around the gift (6.704" before cutting and .838" each when cut)
The set comes with 4 length pieces, 4 width pieces, 3 risers and 1 buffer strip.
Watch Assembly Tutorial VideoWe recommend to assemble outside of the box.
The first thing you need to do, is place 2 length pieces and 2 width pieces on the ends (last notch closest to the end of each piece) of the box to support the corners of the box from caving in. Simply slide the notch from the length piece into the notch on the width piece to create a flush intersection. The side with the living hinge has a longer distance to the end. Make sure the hinge ends are all on the same side of the box.
For shorter boxes, you will need to fold the living hinge (see image below).
Now assemble the remaining support pieces directly around your item. Turn your gift both vertical and horizontal to see which way you get the best fit. You can place the gift in the middle or towards the side. Layout is up to you. Works for one gift or multiple gifts.
If you want to put a piece of tissue paper in the bottom of the box, now is the time. Remove the gift and place the assembled kit inside of the box. Place your gift inside and you are done!
The box that we sell is 15" long x 9.25" wide.. Not every shirt box is the same length. If you have a shorter box at home (some are 14.25"), then you can simply fold the living hinge on the two long pieces (length & riser pieces). Fold away from the V for best results.
If there is a slight amount of space left around your gift, use one of the buffer pieces that are included to minimize movement.
Simply cut along the score lines (subtle lines) that are on the buffer strip to create 8 individual pieces. One side is smaller than the other. If there is only a very small amount of space left between your gift and the divider piece, insert the skinnier side facing your gift. If there is a space closer to .5", insert the wider side of the buffer piece closest to your gift. Some of the buffer pieces will slide in from the top, and some will slide in from the bottom, depending on your layout (simply look where the notch is).
The riser pieces are for shallow gifts such as a DVD, video game or thin jewelry box. Place the risers under the shallow item and it will keep it raised, eliminating lots of movement inside the box. They slide into the grooves of the length pieces to hold them in place. Place them only in the grooves that go under your gift.
Or place a big puffy bow to make up for the extra space. It's up to you.
The set comes with 4 length pieces, 6 width pieces, 8 small 2" boxes and one 15" shirt box.

Leave 2 notches open in-between the dividers for both the length and width.
Fold together the 8 small boxes. They ship flat, so you need to assemble.
If you want to put a piece of tissue paper in the bottom of the box, now is the time.
Place the assebled set inside the shirt box. Then place the boxes in whichever spots you like.
Now you can put your items inside the boxes. A suggestion if you have something small like a charm, is to fill the box up with cotton/balls and then place the small item on top.
